Fern & Nest — Gender Neutral Nursery

Neutral here is about the subject, not the paint chart. These four pieces commit to neither pink nor blue because what they depict — animals out of a storybook — was never gendered to begin with: a mother goose with her duckling, a mother and baby bear, a vintage teddy bear, and a woven name blanket with a teddy on it. They suit a room decorated before the baby arrives, and a nursery a second child will inherit.

Can I order these before the baby is named?

Three of the four, yes. The goose and the two bear prints carry no name at all, so they can be framed and hung months ahead of the due date. The woven blanket is the one that needs the name, because it is made with the name printed into the design, so that is the piece that waits.

Printed and posted, or a file I print myself?

Both, on the three prints. Print & Ship arrives on heavy matte paper, unframed, in seven sizes from 5x7 in (12.7 x 17.8 cm) to 16x20 in (40.6 x 50.8 cm), from about CA$14. The digital download is the same artwork as a file from about CA$13, which is the sensible route if you want all three at a larger size or a print shop is doing the work. The blanket is a physical piece only, 50 x 60 in (127 x 152 cm) or 60 x 80 in (152 x 203 cm), from about CA$84.

Do the three prints hang as a set?

They were painted separately rather than as a trio, so they are not a matched set and will not pretend to be one. Hung in identical frames with even spacing, that reads as collected rather than bought in one go, which is the cottagecore point. If you want a group designed together, the girl’s nursery page has sets of three.

More vintage and cottagecore animals sit on the baby girl nursery page, the gingham and vintage-sports pieces on the baby boy nursery page, and every named blanket, milestone and plain, is on the blankets page.
